Mahsa Yazdani, Grieving Mother of Mohammad Javad Zahedi, Sentenced to 13 Years Imprisonment

On Saturday, December 16, Mahsa Yazdani, the mother of Mohammad Javad Zahedi, shared images of her son’s grave on social media, stating, “I am not a criminal, I am a mother seeking justice.” The Revolutionary Court in Sari had summoned Yazdani on Thursday, December 23, sentencing her to 13 years in prison (5 years to be served) for her activities. This sentence comes even though her daughter, Mitra Zahedi, had previously reported being offered blood money in exchange for signing a consent form in court.

Mohammad Javad Zahedi, a 20-year-old from Sari, was fatally shot by security forces during the nationwide uprising against the Islamic Republic in Sari on the night of September 30, 2021. His mother’s sentencing has sparked further outcry, highlighting the ongoing human rights concerns in Iran.
