Ed Ott, World Series champion with the Pittsburgh Pirates, dies at age 72


PITTSBURGH (KDKA) Former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Ed Ott has handed away.

The staff introduced the information on Sunday. He was 72 years previous.

“We are deeply saddened by the lack of a beloved member of the Pirates household,” Pirates President Travis Williams stated in a launch from the staff. “Ed spent seven of his eight years within the main leagues with the Pirates and was a valued member of the 1979 World Series championship staff. Last summer time he traveled to Pittsburgh to help former teammate Kent Tekub. I used to be actually blissful to fulfill him when he was on the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. ”

Ott was drafted by the Pirates within the twenty third spherical of the June 1970 beginner draft out of Muncie High School in Lycoming County. He is survived by his spouse Sue and daughter Michelle.
