LIMA, Peru — Peruvian police introduced Friday that they’ve arrested an Iranian nationwide suspected of being a part of Iran’s Quds Force and plotting to kill Israeli residents within the South American nation.
Majid Azizi, 56, was arrested in Lima on Thursday together with two Peruvian nationals, General Oscar Arriola, Peru’s police chief, mentioned in a press convention.
Arriola mentioned Azizi arrived in Lima on March 3 and was tipped off about him by overseas intelligence companies.
Iran has performed intelligence operations in South America up to now, notably by the Quds (Jerusalem) Force, an expeditionary drive of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards.
Iran maintains shut relations with Venezuela. The Quds Force was linked to a Boeing 747 aircraft seized in Argentina and later seized by the United States. And most notoriously, Argentina believes Iran was behind the 1994 bombing of a Jewish heart that killed 85 folks.
Arriola mentioned Azizi was arrested after withdrawing cash from an ATM and can stay in jail for the primary 15 days on terrorism fees, together with two different Peruvians who have been arrested.
The basic mentioned the person meant to return to Iran the day he was captured.
Azizi is alleged to be married to a Peruvian lady.
