TEHRAN – Iran’s Zahedan University of Medical Sciences and Pakistan’s University of Lahore are set to deepen cooperation in health tourism and medical sciences.
In an encouraging development linking health tourism and scientific diplomacy, the President of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has outlined upcoming collaborations with Pakistan’s University of Lahore, as reported by ISNA on Sunday.
Dr. Habib Ghaznavi, speaking during a video conference with the University of Lahore, emphasized Zahedan University of Medical Sciences’ prestigious position in the country, stating that this partnership aims to promote bi-national cooperation in Iran’s southeastern region.
He also highlighted the extensive border connections between the Sistan-Baluchestan regions in Iran and Pakistan, emphasizing the cultural proximity and high educational standards which are advantages for academically inclined Pakistani students studying at this university.
Dr. Ghaznavi mentioned that Zahedan University of Medical Sciences comprises seven faculties covering various fields of study related to medical sciences and healthcare.
He expressed the university’s interest in expanding international relations and collaborations with Pakistan in the domains of education, healthcare, and medical services, noting that necessary permits, infrastructure, and human resources have been secured in various sectors for this purpose.
Dr. Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, the advisor to the university’s president on international affairs, also emphasized the university’s interest in potential joint research activities with the University of Lahore, particularly in addressing prevalent diseases in the region.
The collaborative effort between the two universities is intended to establish a promising path for the advancement of medical services, educational excellence, and scientific collaboration between Iran and Pakistan.
Iran was ranked 46th in the 2020-2021 Medical Tourism Index. Data shows that patients from neighboring countries make up the majority of medical tourists arriving in the Islamic Republic.
Experts see medical tourism in Iran as a win-win opportunity for both the country and foreign patients, as they are offered affordable yet quality treatment services, while the country gains considerable foreign currency.
Iran is known globally as an affordable destination for health and medical tourism, offering credible physicians, advanced medical technologies, affordable procedures, and hospitable people, making it a preferred choice for medical tourism.
