Dozens Injured in Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv

Russia’s Assault on Kyiv

Russia unleashed a barrage of ballistic missiles in an attack on Kyiv before dawn on Wednesday. This resulted in injuring over 50 people and causing significant damage to multiple apartment buildings. This was the third attack on Ukraine’s capital city in the last week. The assault began at approximately 3am, with multiple explosions being heard in Kyiv as the city’s air defenses were activated. Air-raid sirens sounded shortly after, indicating an imminent danger.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that the attack involved 10 missiles, all of which were successfully shot down. However, the falling debris from the interceptions caused extensive damage to buildings in Kyiv’s eastern Dniprovskyi district. The extent of the damage was evident on Wednesday morning, as several apartment buildings had their windows blown out, with shattered glass scattered across the ground. Multiple cars were charred, and a large crater was visible on the ground.

According to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, 20 of the injured were hospitalized, including two children. The aftermath of the attack left a playground littered with glass and metal fragments, burned-out vehicles, and heavily damaged kindergarten buildings.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, referring to Russia as a “shameful country” that releases rockets at night, targeting residential areas, kindergartens, and winter energy facilities. It’s clear that the assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is part of a larger campaign aimed at terrorizing and weakening the population.

These recent attacks are further evidence of the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The situation has led President Zelensky to seek additional military aid from the United States and other allied nations to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.
