Political Prisoner Zohreh Sarv Ends Hunger Strike in Evin Prison Following Message from Prince Reza Pahlavi

Zohreh Sarv, a political prisoner advocating for constitutional monarchy in Iran, has ended her hunger strike in Evin Prison, responding to a message from Prince Reza Pahlavi. In a letter from prison, she addressed Prince Pahlavi, expressing her respect for the late Shah and Prince Reza Pahlavi, stating that despite her intention to continue the strike unto death for her freedom, she was moved by the Prince’s message of kindness and decided to break her fast for the sake of Iran. She received his message on Wednesday at 9 PM and was able to respond on Saturday, December 16, considering the communication limitations in prison.

In another part of her letter, Sarv thanked Ali Karimi and other political prisoners for their support and efforts in raising awareness about her situation.

Zohreh was first arrested in 2019 and, after more than two years in prison, was re-arrested in October 2021. She had initiated the hunger strike on December 2, protesting ongoing negligence of her demands, including the denial of conditional release, lack of medical care, and refusal to grant her leave from prison. Her decision to end the hunger strike has brought attention to the challenging conditions faced by political prisoners in Iran.
