Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, in response to the affirmation of the life sentence for Hamid Nouri, a key participant in the political prisoner massacres of 1988 in Sweden’s Court of Appeal, shared a message stating:
The confirmation of Hamid Nouri’s conviction for his role in the political prisoner massacres is a significant and unique step for the justice movement and the Iranian people’s struggle for the freedom of their homeland.
What we witnessed in the handling of Hamid Nouri’s case in Sweden is a testament to the benefits of a liberal, secular democracy based on human rights and the public good. This should serve as a model for future Iran: a democratic and just order where criminals are held accountable in a transparent court that adheres to the standards of the civilized world, not in one-minute summary trials and illegal killings like those that followed the tragedy of ’57.
I congratulate the Iranian justice movement on this achievement and once again thank Iraj Mesdaghi, without whose efforts such an achievement would not have been possible.
Additionally, I invite my fellow countrymen to further pursue the accountability of the Islamic Republic’s operatives’ crimes in foreign courts. The regime and its agents of crime must know that their actions will not be forgotten and will receive an appropriate response.
