Heavy Security Charges Brought Against Masha’Allah Karami; He Required to Post 7 Billion Toman Bail for Temporary Release

Masha’Allah Karami has been accused of “acting against national security,” “propaganda against the regime,” “insulting sacred beliefs,” “forming a group to disrupt national security,” and “insulting the leadership.” His father, Mohammad Mehdi Karami, was detained by security forces of the Ministry of Intelligence on the 31st of Amordad this year, and his wife and other son are under severe security pressure.

This comes ten months after the execution of Mohammad (Kian) Hosseini and Mohammad Mehdi Karami, who were accused of killing Basij member Rouhollah Azmian. Azmian’s brother has stated that the verdict and execution of these two protesting citizens were not related to his brother’s murder.

The family’s legal battle continues as Masha’Allah Karami’s father is required to post a bail of 7 billion Toman for his temporary release. The case has sparked concerns about the human rights situation in the country and the use of security charges against activists and their families.
