Iran Criticizes European Parliament’s Resolution on Human Rights

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has criticized the European Parliament’s resolution on human rights violations in Iran, labeling it as “meddlesome” and “anti-Iranian”.

In a statement released on Friday, Nasser Kanaani expressed that the resolution approved by the European Parliament demonstrates “the confusion of some European parties regarding the reality of the Islamic Republic.”

On Thursday, European Parliamentarians passed a resolution condemning the worsening human rights situation in Iran.

As part of the resolution, European Parliament members urged Iranian authorities to immediately end all forms of discrimination against women and girls, including mandatory veiling, and repeal all laws that discriminate against them.

In addition, the resolution called for the release of “victims of arbitrary detention and human rights defenders” such as Narges Mohammadi, Sepideh Gholian, Golrokh Iraee, Nasrin Javadi, and Bahareh Hedayat.

Furthermore, the MEPs demanded the immediate release of Iranians with dual citizenship and non-Iranians, including Johan Floderus, Ahmadreza Djalali, Nahid Taghavi, Jamshid Sharmahd, and Massoud Mossaheb.

Finally, the resolution reiterated calls to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and to impose sanctions on the President, the Supreme Leader, and the Prosecutor-General for their human rights violations.
