Gohar Eshghi, the mother of Sattar Beheshti, one of the victims of torture in Iran’s prisons, marked her birthday with a poignant message through a video released on X. She expressed gratitude for the affection shown to her, saying, “On my birthday, the dear people showed me great kindness. My children from all over Iran and even abroad congratulated me, filling my heart with joy. Joy is the right of these people.”
Continuing her message, Eshghi emphasized the dual fear of the government towards the people’s anger and happiness. “I refer to them as my children – this regime fears both your wrath and your joy. Whether in mourning or in our moments of happiness, we never forget that Ali Khamenei has taken our young ones from us, those who deserved a life of joy and dignity,” she stated.
Eshghi’s words reflect the ongoing struggle of many families in Iran, who continue to seek justice and rights in a challenging political climate. Her call for maintaining joy amidst grief resonates as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of the Iranian people.
