Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East at UN DPPA Khaled Khiari termed the situation in the Middle East as alarming and called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. Khiari said, “The situation in the Middle East is alarming. Civilians from both sides continue to bear the brunt of this conflict. The risk of regional spillover of this conflict with potentially devastating consequences for the entire region “remains high” given also a multitude of actors involved.”
