A volcano has erupted on the distant island of Suwanosejima in southwestern Japan, the federal government mentioned early Sunday.
No harm has been confirmed as a result of eruption, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing a neighborhood police station in Kagoshima prefecture.
The authorities later issued a stage 3 volcanic alert – out of 5 – for Suwanosejima, proscribing the doorway to harmful areas surrounding the volcano.
