“In the Arms of the Tree,” written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Babak Hajeh Pasha, has been chosen to symbolize Iran on the 2025 Academy Awards.
The choice was made after a 10-day overview course of by the Farabi Film Foundation’s choice committee, which evaluated eligible movies.
The nine-member choice committee unanimously selected “In the Arms of the Tree” directed by Calle Pasha from the three finalists.
The movie tells the shifting story of a household in disaster and explores themes of household relationships and the emotional reconnection between mother and father and kids.
The movie received the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Screenplay on the forty first Fajr International Film Festival.
Other finalists included Alireza Dehgan’s documentary “Isatis” and Ahmad Bahrami’s characteristic movie “The Silent City.”
Iran has received the award for greatest worldwide characteristic movie twice, for director Asghar Farhadi in 2012 for “A Separation” and in 2017 for “The Salesman.”
Farhadi’s movie A Separation received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012, making it the primary Iranian movie to win the award. The movie was additionally nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
In 2017, Farhadi received his second Academy Award for Best International Feature Film on the 89th Academy Awards for his movie The Salesman.
